o    Upon receiving a valid takedown request, YouTube reviews the claim to ensure its legitimacy.

2.      Action Against the Infringing Content:

• If YouTube finds the takedown request to be valid, they may remove the infringing content (video or audio) from the platform. In some cases, they might also monetize the content on behalf of the copyright owner.

3.      Copyright Strike Issued:

o    If the copyright owner chooses to take the matter further, they can issue a copyright strike against the user who uploaded the infringing content. A copyright strike acts as a formal warning.

o    The infringing user will be notified by YouTube about the strike, and the content in question will be removed or restricted.

4.      Consequences of Copyright Strikes:

o    First Strike: The user receives a warning and must complete Copyright School, an online course about copyright on YouTube.

o    Second Strike: The user cannot upload content for two weeks and must complete Copyright School again.

o    Third Strike: The user's channel is terminated, and they are permanently banned from creating or using YouTube channels.

How to Handle Copyright Strikes:

1.      Review the Claim: If you believe that the copyright claim is incorrect or that you have the rights to use the content, you can dispute the claim through YouTube's Content ID system.

2.      Counter Notification: If you receive a copyright strike and believe it was issued in error, you have the option to submit a counter notification. This notifies the copyright owner that you dispute their claim, and they have 10-14 business days to take legal action.
